ANALISIS PENGGUNAAN AKRONIM DALAM KOMUNIKASI DARING (MEDIA SOSIAL)
Main Article Content
Abstract
: The development of digital technology and social media has brought significant changes to communication patterns in society. One prominent linguistic phenomenon in online communication is the use of acronyms. Acronyms are employed to accelerate message delivery, save writing space, and create a sense of closeness among users. This study aims to analyze the forms, functions, and meanings of acronym usage in online communication on social media. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through documentation of social media posts and user comments. The data were analyzed through data reduction, classification, and interpretation based on linguistic theory. The findings indicate that acronyms used in online communication can be classified into several types, including formal, semi-formal, and informal acronyms. In terms of function, acronyms serve as tools for communication efficiency, markers of group identity, and expressions of users’ emotions. These findings suggest that the use of acronyms on social media is not merely practical but also reflects the dynamic and adaptive nature of language in response to technological and digital cultural developments.
